Battlefield 2142 Online Tournament set to be the biggest online tournament in New Zealand history.

Auckland, NZ – 4th October 2006 – Electronic Arts New Zealand today announced that it will be hosting an Online Tournament for Battlefield 2142 with an unprecedented prize pool for a tournament of its kind.   

Last years Battlefield 2 tournament proved its worth as the biggest online tournament in New Zealand to date … and there is no doubt that BF2142 will surpass this and take its place in the gaming community as the most lethal and incredible first person shooter ever.

Mike Wynands, General Manager of Electronic Arts New Zealand said "EA is looking forward to releasing another Battlefield title and being closely involved in yet another official Battlefield tournament. EA's support of online events and the gaming community is well recognised so this tournament aims to improve competition quality and reinforce our commitment to the gamer."

This year the tournament and servers will be administrated by nzbattlefield.com and skankyflat gaming respectively and Razer have stepped up to be the main sponsors of the tournament contributing some incredible products to the prize pool.

Battlefield 2142 releases in New Zealand on 19th October which gives teams only 2 and a half weeks to get into gear for the tournament.  Teams will have to be ready for action in time for the tournament launch on 6th November.  The finals will be played on 19th November when the winning team will be crowned NZ BF2142 Champions … and will be sent off to check their passport validity so that they can accept their amazing prize.

The winning team (comprising of 8 players) will be flown to Taipei in December to compete in the Asia Pacific BF2142 championship tournament.  The team will compete against players from countries including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and South Africa.

There will also be spot prizes throughout the tournament including some awesome gaming gear from Razer including the Razer Diamondback Mouse and Razer eXact Mouse Mat and Wrist Rest.

Skankyflat Games are also offering a 3 month 32 slot sponsored server rental and 2 one month 32 slot server rental including VOIP.

Plus there will be lots of EA Games packs up for grabs.

As an added bonus for those wanting to check out the game and see if they are up to the challenge of the EA BF2142 Online Tournament… EA will be hosting a BF2142 LAN at the Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo at the Aotea Centre on 21st – 23rd October.
